USGS Retirees meet through Informal and formal gatherings are held all over the country. These The USGS Retirees have been meeting in person for reunions for over 50 years and range from coffee, breakfast, or lunch meetups, monthly technical presentations, to annual holiday gatherings. The USGS Retirees have been meeting in person for reunions for over 50 years. These reunions are typically every other year and are rotated through locations that will offer a reunion within driving distance once every ten years.
Reunions typically last three days with a schedule similar to

Check in 2:00 – 7:00 pm
Informal reunion kickoff- gathering 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Day 2
information meeting day 1 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.

dinner banquet 6:00 – 9:30 p.m.

2027 USGS Retiree’s Reunion
September 15-17, 2027
Maritime Conference Center
Baltimore, MDLocation and Meeting Facility
Meetings and Lodging at the Maritime Conference Center (MCC) near Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport. Welcome Reception on Wednesday, September 15, 2027. Meetings/activities on Thursday and Friday, September 16-17. A block of lodging rooms and a hospitality room have been reserved at the MCC, September 15 through September 17 at $149 per night and that includes up to 4 people in the room and a buffet breakfast. Online registration will be coming after October 2026, with a detailed program available in early 2027.
Major Events
Presentations by USGS leaders and current scientists and discussions of WRD and USGS history.
Thursday evening, September 16, dinner at either Guinness Brewery or local seafood restaurant.
Field trip(s) planned for Friday, September 17, to illustrate state-of-the-art data programs, and studies of water supply, urban hydrology, and environmental health of Chesapeake Bay.
Banquet at Maritime Center on Friday, September 17.
And, of course, performances by USGS Retiree musicians.
Baltimore Area Attractions and Entertainment
Baltimore attractions include Fort McHenry National Monument, the B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore Harbor, the National Aquarium, and many fine museums. The location provides easy access to Washington, D.C. and its many attractions. Ba;timore is convenient for pre- or post-reunion trips to other Middle Atlantic area attractions such as the Atlantic beaches, Civil War sites, the Shenandoah Valley, and Williamsburg, VA.
Transportation
The conference and lodging facility (MCC) is located about 10 minutes from BWI airport and an AMTRAK station and shuttle service is provided to both by the MCC. BWI is served by major airlines and is a primary East Coast hub for Southwest Airlines. It is 10 minutes off of I-95, which is the major north-south highway for the East Coast. The AMTRAK station near BWI also includes the MARC commuter line between Baltimore and Washington, and the light-rail station at BWI provides convenient access to downtown Baltimore. Rental cars are available at BWI, but are not needed for the Reunion itself. However, rentals are readily available for pre- or post-Reunion excursions to the Middle Atlantic destinations for those flying or using rail services.
